My thesis "Fluorescence detection of amyloid fibrils" deals with the detection and characterization of amyloid fibrils by means of the novel fluorescent dyes. Amyloid fibrils are ordered protein aggregates associated with the neurodegenerative diseases. Furthermore, they were also demonstrated to have the properties of the prospective nanomaterials. In view of this, the investigation of amyloid fibrils by means of the powerful techniques, including the fluorescence spectroscopy, is of particular importance in medicine and biotechnology. Specifically, the main objective of my research is threefold: 1) evaluation of the sensitivity of the novel fluorescent dyes to fibrillar and pre-fibrillar protein aggregates; 2) estimation of fluorophore location in amyloid fibril structure; 3) investigation of the spectral properties and quantum- chemical characteristics of the novel dyes. |
