Currently I am involved in the studies of hemoglobin-lipid interactions. The importance of such studies is severalfold. First, hemoglobin represents a suitable model for elucidating general principles of protein-lipid interactions. Second, physiological implications of hemoglobin ability to specifically associate with the inner surface of red blood cell membranes are still unclear. Third, better understanding of conformational behavior of interfacially adsorbed Hb is of great significance in practical aspect related to a more conscientious design of hemosome-based blood substitutes.
